With profound sadness, we, the staff of McPhatter Funeral Home, regretfully announce the passing of our esteemed staff member, Deacon Hyder Massey, Jr. He transitioned peacefully, surrounded by the family who loved him dearly.  Deacon Massey was a man of unwavering commitment, he was a voice for his community, his church, and his profession.  He worked tirelessly to uplift and support those around him. His leadership extended into many areas of service, including his role as a member of the Wagram Town Council, his impactful work as Director of Parks and Recreation, and his faithful role as a Deacon within his church, where he served with humility and devotion.  Mr. Massey will be deeply missed by his family, colleagues, church family, and the countless individuals whose lives were touched by his kindness, integrity, and steadfast service.  Funeral service will be held at  Unionville Missionary Baptist Church (Laurinburg, NC) on Saturday May 16, 2026 at 3:00pm.  A viewing will be held on Friday May 15, 2026 at McPhatter Funeral Home in Laurel Hill, NC from 1:00pm -5:00pm.  Burial will follow the service at Matthews Spring Branch Memorial Gardens (Wagram, NC).
